Frequently Asked Questions

About LightHealth

What is LightHealth?

LightHealth is a consumer lighting brand from Sensio BioLabs, a UK spectral engineering company. Our products deliver precisely tuned wavelengths of light — including 480nm circadian blue, 650nm red, 825nm near-infrared, and others — at the right intensity and at the right time of day to support your body’s natural biology.

Is this just a SAD lamp?

No. Standard SAD lamps deliver 10,000 lux of broadband white light as a blunt tool. LightHealth targets 480nm directly — the precise wavelength melanopsin responds to — and combines it with multiple other spectral channels, each serving a different biological purpose. It is a fundamentally more precise approach.

Is LightHealth a medical device?

LightHealth products are wellness products, not medical devices. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any medical condition. If you have a diagnosed condition such as clinical SAD, a sleep disorder, or any other health concern, please consult your GP before use.

The science

What is the 480nm circadian blue channel?

Melanopsin — the light-sensitive protein in your eye that controls your biological clock — has its peak sensitivity at exactly 480nm. Standard LED lights use a 450nm blue chip, which barely touches this threshold. LightHealth’s dedicated 480nm channel delivers the dose your clock actually needs to stay synchronised.

Who is Dr Martin Moore-Ede?

Dr Martin Moore-Ede was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, where he led the team that first located the suprachiasmatic nucleus — the master biological clock in the brain. He has published extensively on circadian biology and light health for over 40 years. He serves as Chief Health Advisor to Sensio BioLabs and LightHealth.

Using LightHealth

How long does it take to notice a difference?

Most people notice improved mood and easier waking within one to two weeks of consistent morning use. Clinical evidence shows measurable changes in cortisol and melatonin timing within seven days. Sleep quality improvements typically follow within two to three weeks.

Do I need an app?

No. LightHealth products are designed to work automatically based on your wake time. Set it once, and the device adjusts the spectrum throughout the day without any further input required.

Can I use it if I work shifts?

Yes — shift workers are among the people who benefit most from spectral light management. LightHealth products can be configured for non-standard sleep schedules. Contact us for guidance on shift work protocols.

Is it safe to use near children?

The wavelengths used in LightHealth products are the same wavelengths found in natural daylight. They are safe for use around children in normal domestic conditions. As with any lighting product, avoid directing the light source directly at the eyes at close range for extended periods.
